Well, today marks the conclusion of two weeks since I started this whole endeavor. How is it going, you might ask?
Honestly, I don’t know.
On the plus side, I’m down two pounds since last week, which feels like a win. I didn’t exercise every single day, but I was active and managed to get over 10,000 steps each day. I went for a walk four days and even completed an exercise video once, which I feel deserves at least a small parade.
When it comes to eating, things definitely didn’t go as well as planned, although they could have been worse. After the skunk apocalypse hit, I was pretty much in survival mode. I wasn’t binge-eating everything in sight, but I also wasn’t exactly making nutritious, well-balanced meals. For several days, my primary nutritional strategy was grabbing a Smucker’s Uncrustable out of the freezer whenever I noticed my stomach growling. Not exactly the diet plan I had envisioned, but technically, it was food.
Have I noticed any positive changes since I started this two weeks ago? Kinda. Maybe.
I still sound and feel like a water buffalo after exercising or walking up the four flights of stairs to my office, but my legs do hurt slightly less during my walks. I love how I feel after exercising, although I can’t say I’ve noticed any significant improvements in my sleep, energy, or focus. So far, I have not experienced the magical transformation where I suddenly wake up at 5 a.m. feeling energized and excited to exercise. I’m still waiting for that particular personality transplant.
For fitness, my goals for this coming week are to stay active, complete at least four workout videos, and start running a little more during each walk. Doable, right?
In terms of my other goals, I want to write at least three more chapters, start taking one of the free MIT courses, and actually try to get some actual work done. You know, the kind of work that brings in a paycheck.
None of this sounds particularly thrilling, and I’m certainly not expecting to wake up tomorrow as a completely new and improved person who meal preps, runs marathons, and voluntarily wakes up early to meditate. However, I’m hoping that if I keep chugging along, I’ll slowly start making some real progress.
Two weeks and three pounds down. Only approximately 45 more pounds to go.
