Well, today marks one week of trying to get my shit together.

I’d love to tell you I’ve emerged as one of those people who meal preps on Sundays, drinks green smoothies, and wakes up excited to do yoga.

That would be a lie.

But… progress is progress.

As far as being more active goes, I’m actually kind of crushing it. I’ve done some form of exercise every day this week. With the exception of yesterday, I’ve either gone for a walk/run or completed a workout video. Three days I even managed to do both.

Yesterday, however, I’m counting my frantic sprint around the house scrubbing dogs, furniture, walls, and carpet in a desperate attempt to erase the Eau de Skunk as my workout. If you’ve ever wrestled a skunked dog into a bathtub while simultaneously questioning every life choice you’ve ever made, you know that should burn more calories than any fitness class.

To prove I hadn’t completely given up on movement, I even took the kids swimming at the local aquatic center afterward.

The scale says I’m down one pound.

One.

Normally I’d roll my eyes at that, but considering my eating habits this week could best be described as “whatever fits in my mouth while standing in the kitchen,” I’ll gladly take it.

My goal this week is to focus on eating healthier…

Starting tomorrow.

Because tonight my husband is taking me out to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and I fully intend to enjoy every bite, every sip, and every minute without mentally calculating how many miles I’ll have to run afterward. Healthy Jennifer can clock in tomorrow morning.

I’ve also made some progress on my writing goal.

The first chapter of my book is officially finished!

Unfortunately, I made the rookie mistake of telling my kids I’m writing a book. Now they’re both demanding to read it and want hourly updates on the plot.

Which would be adorable…

…except this book is about as appropriate for a nine- and eleven-year-old as tequila and a tattoo gun.

Apparently, “You’ll understand when you’re older” isn’t an acceptable answer.

So we’ve reached a compromise.

I’m now writing two books.

The original one for adults, and a second one aimed at young adults with my daughter as my creative partner. She comes up with the plot, and I do the writing.

Honestly, I’m starting to think she’s the talented one in this partnership.

At the rate she’s throwing out ideas, she’ll probably have a bestselling series before I finish Chapter One.

Meanwhile, I’ll be over here trying to eat vegetables, outrun the smell of skunk, and convince myself that one pound is the beginning of a very inspiring transformation.
